Work-Life Balance Reality Check: Did You Know?

  • Women's earning power has increased, but caregiving and housework remain unbalanced.

  • Pew Research Center found that even in egalitarian marriages, women still spend more time on housework and caregiving.

  • Imbalance can lead to poorer mental health and burnout for women.

  • A recent study by Lancet Public Health confirms gender inequality in unpaid labor and its impact on women's mental health.

  • Biased attitudes towards men's and women's values perpetuate gender inequities in the division of responsibilities at home.

  • Despite biases, the majority believe that equal sharing of work and home responsibilities benefits children.

Here are five organizational strategies that have proven to help working women better balance work and life:
经过验证,以下5个组织策略可以帮助到职业女性更好地平衡工作和家庭: 

1. Flexible Work Arrangements (FWAs) - Determine employee flexibility needs and implement flexible work arrangements or programs supported by technology, management training, and culture change.  

灵活的工作安排(FWAs) - 首先确定员工的灵活性需求,并采取灵活的工作安排或计划,企业方面应给予员工技术、管理培训和文化变革上的支持。 

2. Paid Caregiving Leave Policies - Offer paid leave to new parents and caregivers of seriously ill family members in addition to extended career breaks for caregiving or other family-related/personal responsibilities.  

提供带薪看护假期 - 除了给予看护者或其他与家庭及个人相关的职责人延长职业假期外,同时也为新手父母和重病家庭成员的主要看护者提供带薪看护假。

3. Wellness and Education Programs - Offer programs that focus on physical and mental health like free gym memberships, on-site medical assistance, or training sessions to help employees tackle issues in work and life.  

开展健康和教育项目 - 社会和企业提供一些关注身心健康的项目,比如给员工提供免费的健身房会员资格,现场医疗援助,或者开展培训课程帮助员工解决工作和生活中的难题。 

4. Workforce Exit and Re-entry Programs - Implement plans to help women who are leaving or reentering the workforce after maternity leave supported by ramp-up/ramp-down programs, flexibility, and recruitment training. 

开展退出职场和再就业项目 - 实施相关计划,帮助那些产假后离开职场或重新进入职场的女性。比如,通过一些上升/下降的计划、提供各种灵活性安排和招聘培训等等。 

5. Access to Childcare Services and Resources - Offer access to resources and referrals to childcare services to support women and lower turnover, decrease absences, increase employee loyalty, and improve team morale and public image.  

提供托育服务和资源 - 通过提供托育服务资源和推荐可靠的托育服务,来支持女性并降低女性员工流失率,减少女性职场缺勤率,提高员工忠诚度,提高团队士气和公众形象。
